The Liceu pays tribute to Roger Alier

The Gran Teatre del Liceu honors the life and legacy of Roger Alier, Gold Medal of the Liceu 2023, with a commemorative recital that highlights his dedication and passion for operatic art, as well as his tireless and committed connection to the Teatre.

With a long biography dedicated to lyricism, Professor Alier was a true institution in the world of opera. From his tireless work of exhuming the season of the Teatre Principal to the premiere of the first staged version of Mozart's opera Il re pastore in Spain, and representing the first opera in the history of the El Molino theater on the Paral·lel, his legacy will endure in the collective memory.

The tribute recital will follow the trail of Maestro Alier's extraordinary life, presenting vital frames exemplified with exciting operatic fragments. In addition, these moments will be performed by the singers who accompanied the professor in his multiple initiatives, offering a unique and emotional experience. A concert full of the music that made him happy and that he programmed, conducted, translated, or disseminated in a full and devoted life to the art of opera, with pieces by Mozart, Cimarosa, Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi, and others. Among the distinguished singers who will participate in this commemoration are Serenza Sáenz, David Alegret, Jan Antem, Josep Bros, Carlos Cosías, Carlos Daza, Beñat Egiarte, Mercedes Gancedo, Tina Gorina, Maria Hinojosa, Núria Rial, Marc Sala, and Laura Vila. They will be accompanied on the piano by Josep Buforn and Stanislav Angelov.
